Housing for Healthcare Communities in Nova Scotia Reach Over 90% Occupancy

by | Apr 19, 2026 | Healthcare Communities, News, Non Profiit

We’re extremely proud to share an update on our Housing for Healthcare communities. Of the 48 non‑market rental homes delivered to date through this program in rural Nova Scotia, over 90% are now occupied, with five units currently available for leasing.

From the Canso Causeway to the South Shore, these communities support healthcare and skilled trades workers across rural Nova Scotia, with new Housing for Healthcare communities opening in 2026.

For healthcare and skilled trades workers, this means access to well‑maintained homes at rents they can manage—close to where they work and the communities they serve. When residents aren’t stretched by market‑rate rents, they tell us they finally have room in their budgets for everyday needs like groceries, transportation to work, and a bit of enjoyment—things many had to put aside before finding HTNS housing.

While our residents are diverse, we focus on the “missing middle”—teachers, nurses, tradespeople, and other essential workers who help our communities thrive. By supporting this middle tier of the workforce, we help create stability from the centre outward. When the middle is strong, the entire housing system becomes stronger.

At HTNS, we operate in the non‑market rental housing segment, prioritizing stability so essential workers can focus on what matters most: caring for our communities.
