At the Housing Trust of Nova Scotia, sustainability is built into how we care for our communities. Through deep energy retrofits and clean‑energy investments, we’re reducing environmental impact while improving comfort and stability for residents.

Our Deep Energy Retrofit work is delivering measurable results:

✅ 70% improvement targets in energy efficiency through retrofit work at 27 Evans Avenue and 240 Portland Street

✅ 80% reduction targets in greenhouse gas emissions through retrofit work at 27 Evans Avenue and 240 Portland Street

✅ Solar installation at 27 Evans Avenue and 240 Portland Street supporting long‑term operational savings and building resilience

✅ Low‑carbon construction, achieving a 31% reduction in CO₂ emissions through innovative concrete practices as part of a Housing for Healthcare community case study

Innovations like Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) are also improving everyday comfort for residents by enhancing air quality and moisture balance, while helping reduce energy use at 27 Evans Avenue and 240 Portland Street.

This work is made possible through support from our partners: CMHC (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation), Efficiency One, the Province of Nova Scotia and HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality). Together, we’re creating sustainable homes that improve daily life for residents and protect the environment.
