Our 2025 Impact Report is coming soon, and this year’s theme is all about Resident Impact—the real change people feel when their homes become healthier, and more stable. One of the stories we’re highlighting is Barry’s. After years of drafty windows and uneven heating at 27 Evans Avenue, our deep energy retrofit work transformed his home—without displacing him or his neighbours. Barry describes how the new windows, fixtures, and building upgrades have made his space more comfortable and improved his day‑to‑day well‑being. His story reflects what this work is truly about: restoring homes, renewing lives, and keeping residents at the center of every decision we make.
For Barry, a longtime resident of 27 Evans Avenue, 2025 was a turning point. The building he lived in for years had aging systems, drafty windows, inefficient appliances, and uneven heating and cooling—issues that affected comfort, health, and monthly costs.
HTNS’s deep energy retrofit program changed that.
Throughout the year, 27 Evans underwent extensive improvements:
- Exterior envelope restoration
- HVAC upgrades and modernization
- Insulation enhancements
- Solar planning and integration
- Crawl‑space remediation and structural reinforcement
- New windows and doors
- High‑efficiency lighting and fixtures
- Landscape reinstatement that made shared spaces more inviting
Just as important as the upgrades themselves was how they were completed: HTNS does not renovict. Residents remained in their homes wherever possible, or were moved temporarily into another unit so they could return immediately after work was complete. The priority was clear—protect stability while improving quality of life.
For Barry, that commitment made all the difference.
In Their Own Words:
“My name is Barry. I live at 27 Evans Avenue and I work in security. Before the retrofit, the windows in my apartment were very bad and drafty. The new windows made the apartment more comfortable.”
“HTNS did a great job with the renovation process. Since I was able to remain housed, it made no difference, as only the windows, toilet, and shower head were replaced.”
He also noted the personal impact:
“The upgrades have made my home feel more comfortable and improved my overall well‑being. Having better windows and fixtures has made a noticeable difference in how I feel in the space.”
A Community‑Wide Improvement
Barry has seen how upgrades strengthened the entire building. The refreshed exterior feels solid and secure, new landscaping has brought neighbours together, and modern HVAC systems make shared spaces more comfortable.
“And the best part is that I never lost my home. I stayed—HTNS made sure of that. That stability means everything to me.”
Across the building, residents echoed similar feedback: they see visible progress, they feel that things are finally happening, they feel heard, and they describe the HTNS team as “like family.”
