Our Communities
Our workforce housing communities are spread throughout the HRM and housing for healthcare workers, across the province. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to expanding workforce housing that strengthens local communities and supports the people who keep them running.

Housing for Healthcare
In March 2023, the Housing Trust of Nova Scotia partnered with the Government of Nova Scotia on a $20 million initiative to build and operate housing specifically for healthcare workers. By March 2024, funding was expanded to $45 million, supporting the creation of at least 112 new units across the province.
This initiative addresses two critical challenges:
- Shortage of housing for healthcare professionals
- The growing shortage of affordable housing in Nova Scotia
Using our mixed-income housing model, the Housing Trust will ensure affordability by offering rent incentives based on household income. We are also working closely with local healthcare organizations to connect eligible residents with available homes. Each development is designed with long-term retention in mind, helping healthcare workers integrate into communities and build lasting roots.
